Is the ASV equal to the NASB? There are several ASV versions. There is the 1881 version several versions between and the 1901 version. We know much more in the later part of the 20th Century of geography, word studies as well as archeology. The NASB came out around 1970. I used this and the King James Version to translate the Greek text in seminary. Around 1995, a New, NASB arrived on the scene that had changes in the language, including removing the Old English, "Ye" and other obtuse language. I use this NASB-95 version as it is about as close to the Greek as one can translate from one language to another. To answer your question, I used the ASV-1901 before the NASB. Once the NASB, while quite wooden, it was a literal translation of the original languages. Once the NASB-1995, it is much easier to read, and remains very literal to the translated languages. |
