John - True enough, not all splits are in themselves bad. Some, in fact, are necessary. But the underlying cause of the splits, e.g., liberalism, apostasy, doctrinal, etc. is usually very bad. By the way, it looks as though splits within PCUSA may be forhthcoming, and it doesn't look any too promising for the Episcopal Church either. More splits, more splinters -- is there no end?
