2 | What is sound doctrine?M.Royal | 1 Tim 6:3 | mark d seyler | 188105
Hi M.Royal, Sound, in this verse, is from the Greek "kalos", which means beautiful, or good. It is used of excellent, and honest. Doctrine is teaching. So sound doctrine is beautiful and good, excellent and honest teaching. Love in Christ, Mark |

3 | How can we be sure we are right? | 1 Tim 6:3 | M.Royal | 188123
Hi Mark, Thank you, Is there therefore only gospel/doctrine that we should abide in? With so many doctrines/denominations, all professing to be right, how can we be sure that we are in Gods will/doctrine/gospel? Yours sincerely M.Royal |

Hi M.Royal, All I can really answer to this is in the words of Paul to Timothy, Be diligent to show yourself approved to God, a workman not needing to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. Love in Christ, Mark |

5 | Where do we stand with God? | 1 Tim 6:3 | M.Royal | 188156
Thanks Mark, Knowing that Paul was reffering to the doctrine of Christ, and what Jesus taught; that it was not changed or blasphemed (1 Tim. 6:1,13,14). If our doctrine /teaching contradicts the doctrine of Christ, where do we stand with God? Yours sincerely M.Royal |

6 | Where do we stand with God? | 1 Tim 6:3 | BradK | 188158
Hello M Royal, Could you elaborate on what you mean by "the doctrine of Christ"? As I read your profile, I'm hearing you say something to the effect that we would need to obey ALL that is taught by Christ? For instance, would everything contained in Matt. 10 apply to us and we'd need to follow? Am I correct or misunderstanding you? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

7 | Where do we stand with God? | 1 Tim 6:3 | M.Royal | 188161
Hello BradK, The gospel of Christ is whatsoever Christ taught his apostles which they in turn have given to us, henceforth the saying "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine".(Acts 2:42). Christs doctrine was all about the kingdom, or generaly called the gospel of the kingdom. As it is written if we transgress what christ has taught, it is written "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the gospel of Christ, hath not God. he that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son (2 John 9,10) I guess you could say the choice is ours. With all that christ has said/taught, Matthew 10. does apply to us. Is there anything specific you were concerned about? Your Sincerely M.Royal |

8 | Where do we stand with God? | 1 Tim 6:3 | BradK | 188175
Hello M. Royal, First of all, I make a distinction between Israel and the Church. My specific concern would be if you take literally what Christ taught in Matt 10: 1. He said, "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles" Are you and I not "gentiles"?; 2. Do you, "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons"?; 3. Do you "...acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts"? My point is this: A literal reading of the commands given in Matt. 10 would preclude most- if not all- of us from living the lifestyle(s) we do. I think we need to understand that all these "commands" were given prior to the cross. Before we embrace the "doctrine of Christ", must we not reconcile it with what was revealed to and taught by the apostle Paul?(Rom. 11:3) Romans contains the theology of the NT. If we neglect or misunderstand this doctrinal book, then I believe we miss the message of the NT! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

9 | "What is the context of 1 Timothy 6:3?" | 1 Tim 6:3 | InGodITrust | 188186
M.Royal, I have been looking at all the responses you've gotton since your initial question. I think they and perhaps you have strayed from the context of 1 Timothy 6:3....... Secondly, do you have a specific question regarding the context of 1 Tim 6:3? The context of 1 Tim 6:3 is basically the first two verses. This has to do with Christian respect and obedience to our (today) employers since none of us today are slaves. Verse three would say to us today to obey and loyally respect our employer as if we are serving Christ. The warning in 1 Timothy chapter six is not to pay attention to false teachers who would tell us, or give us, teaching that goes against what Christ taught regarding or service to those in charge or over us. As far as other verses related to "the doctrine of Christ," these have to do with His deity or Lordship in salvation. With regards to all the teachings of the Apostles, as others have indicated (especially in our day and age) your "best foot forward" is all God would ask of you or any of us. Is all the various doctrines taught today confusing and many misleading? "What an understatment!" As others have indicated, the Holy Spirit and much prayer is all that is required. God is not asking us to fret over whether or not "all our doctrines are PERFECT." If you are His child, He will lead you and does not require all you know and do to be "flawless." Hope this helps, did not intend to get in the middle of all this, but when trying to understand Scripture it's "context, context, context." Let me know, InGodITrust |
