Christians. Many buy into this idea of "once saved alwayed saved." I believe in eternal security, but not when the believer choses to go his own way after having originally surrendered to Christ. For this reason Jesus commands, "Remain in me..." and He instructs, "If you remain in me..." with several rewards mentioned, but He also warns, "If a man does not remain in me..." and implies mega consequences. Check out Paul's instruction concerning what can happen to young leaders. "He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil." 1 Timothy 3:6 |

Everlearnibg: Could you explain how you believe in eternal security, yet not when the believer choses to go his own way...? For me this sounds rather hard to understand. Doesn'y the Bible say the Holp Spirit have His seal on us as an assurance of deposit of our salvation. Perhaps saying "faith that falters had a flaw in it from the first" might be what be what you are saying? Would you please elaborate on this for me? Blessings. justme |

I am not saying that falty faith was the problem and that if it appears tha one backslid then they were never a true believer to start with. That is not solid reasoning and is not consistant with the teaching of Scripture. By eternal security I mean that those who are "believers" - which implies a lifestyle of obedience - in Chirst need not be concerned that they are not saved. Those who commit sin have an advocate to speak to the Father (1 John 2:1), but those who persist in their sinful living without repentence do not (1 John 2:3-6). It is true Jesus promised that no one and nothing can take them out of His hand who are His, but God doesn't force believers to continue to walk with Him and His word declares that they can become deceived and wind up in hell. Those who come to Christ and at some future point then turn away from Him by their own free will chosing to enjoy a lifestyle of forbidden practices may disqualifies himself for the prize. Even Paul recognized this was possible for himself when he wrote, "No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize" (1 Corinthians 9:27). The writer of Hebrews also discusses the subject of falling away and continuing in willful sin after being saved. "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearul expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of god." Probably. It get's pretty difficult to be precise when we only have word with which to communicate. | ||||||

Well said. The most important thing we can ask anyone is "Do you know Jesus?" I have had more doors open with these few words. I am not orginal with this, and don't know it's source. I am not sure that's the point, it just works. justme |
