1 | Can woemn teach/preach men? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Fellow Pilgrim | 175020 | ||
Is Paul saying women cannot, under any circumstances, teach men? I have recently heard the correct meaning here is that Paul does not permit women, who are tending to usurp the God-ordained authority (and associated responsibilities) of men in the church. Hello Fellow Pilgrim, There is a problem in saying that Paul's instruction here is only because of the Ephesian culture--the entire book can be said to be instruction only for the Ephesian culture. 1 Timothy becomes unimportant. Taken together with 1 Cor 12 and 1 Cor 14, a better thought is that women are not to be teaching men or taking leadership over men in church. This gives freedom to teach unbelievers, etc. outside the regular meetings of the church. Steve |
