bowler, In the full context of what Paul was saying, there were reasons for his admonition to Timothy, in direct relation to what Paul said not to talk about, or the people not to talk to. Because they gender strife's, both topics, and people. As far as us, (believers) having a discussion, there shouldn't be any topics we could not talk about. Whenever we are engaged in a conversation, we know when it heads into the direction of controversy. In the case of the Forum, there isn't anything inherently wrong with any topic to be discussed, the problem arises because it is an (Open Forum), and there are some brothers that don't have the knowledge, understanding, thereby possibly causing them difficulties in there own walk Romans 15:1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 1 Timothy 1 3) As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia,( that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine.) 4) Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. 6) From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; 7) Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. Immanuelsown Amen brother, amen! You are making me think harder about this now - my mind was more leading towards not talking about endless genealogies and myths as being the only things we shouldn't be talking about. But in context of not causing the "weak", although who knows, I may be the "weak", to stumble I agree that is correct. blessings abound, bowler |
