The Rapture is a term in Christian eschatology which refers to the "being caught up" discussed in 1 Thessalonians 4:17, when the "dead in Christ" and "we who are alive and remain" will be "caught up in the clouds" to meet "the Lord in the air" The problem is it may mean many things to different people. Some see a rapture of people before the final tribulation here on earth. This idea was found in the early church and on and off through church history. But the latest refinned definition of it came about in the 1830's being taught by John Nelson Darby and made widely known through the Scofield Reference Bible Others see this passage talking of Jesus second return and people coming up from earth to met Jesus before Jesus touches down on earth. There is an interesting and fairly informative decision of this on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapture It provides both sides of the issue. |

The modern-day church seems to not do a very good job of explaining this issue. God's kingdom is right here on the face of the earth. Christ will return the same way he left. He will descend (Acts 1:11). People who have died will come back to life (Daniel 12:2, Isaiah 26:19). And the New Jerusalem will descend from heaven (Revelation 21:2). If you rapture/fly away you're sure to miss the whole thing. That wouldn't be too much fun now would it. Acts 1:11 and they also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven." Daniel 12:2 "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt. Isaiah 26:19 Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits. Revelation 21:2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. |

Jim As I mentioned in my first post the postion you champion is one of many. Since scripture can be and often is interpreted differently other conclusions have been reached about what is called the Rapture. Nothing in scripture precludes any of those other views from happening nor do they weaken any essential position of the scriptures. So we have to consider them as being possible and awaiting until events are so fulfilled that they are proven or shown to be wrong. To do so now shows we refuse to consider others points of view, when they cause no harm to the any teachings of scripture. That is called being unreasonably closed minded. |

Jim Perhaps I misunderstood your post or you misunderstood mine. I read yours as perhaps carrying an unspoken implication of being the only answer. I don't think you violated any of the four points you mentioned and I hope my post did not imply that. Sorry if it did. |
