Hi Beensetfree, I want to share with you some Bible texts but I would like for you to prayfully read these texts on idols. In Galatians idolatry is listed as the works of the flesh Gal5:20. In 1 John 5:21 it states to keep away from idols. In the old testiment Deuteronomy 5:6,7,8,9, 10 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.You shall not make for yourself any carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep my commandments. Bible is clear about idols. The Bible is the book to base all spiritual experience by to know truth. Worship is about God and the Word says who we worship and how by using the Word as our standard. John4:24 says that God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. If you want to read more on the origin of churches there is a book by Edward Gibbon named the History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire Volume II, chapter 28, p.619 Vol.IV chapter 49, pp.69,249,250,252, 253 It talks about how the early church stared introducing symbolic adoration and it was to appease the unbelieving people at the time to worship God. Yet the Word of God forbid it. Read for yourself 1 John prayerfully. The Bible speaks very strongly about idol worship look at Rev 9:20. We are living in end times and in Matthew 24:23 24,25,26,27 it talks about people saying that Christ was here or there but it was false. Then if anyone says to you, Look here is the Christ or There Do not believe it For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, Look He is in the desert Do not go out; or Look, He is in the inner rooms Do not believe it. For as the lightening comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. May God guide you. sparrow-l |

Dear Sparrow-l: Interesting Bible quotes. Thank you for them and I will consider them. I would like to ask you though, how do you respond to God making an image of Himself in Christ Jesus? Didn't Jesus say He was/is God? If you are a member of a Protestant church, do you have a cross hanging on the wall? A cross is an icon (a representation) of the cross Christ hung on. Do you wear a cross on a chain? How do you deal with the images God instructed the Israelites to put in the Tabernacle and on the Ark of the Covenant (cherubim and seraphim)? Did He break His own instructions? No, I don't think He did. As for the early church making icons to "appease unbelieving people," I respectfully disagree. Historically, the early church introduced icons/images to help teach the illiterate the stories in the Bible. As for spiritual worship, I completely agree. But how do you know whether someone who venerates an icon is "worshipping an idol?" Are you able to see into their heart? Only God can do that, so the Bible tells me. An icons are called "windows into heaven." The Bible also says, judge not lest ye be judged. I write all this, not to be contentious in the least, but to respond to your kind thoughts and suggestions and to provide additional food for thought for yourself. Blessings and Best regards, Beensetfree |
