Hi Terrib, Here is what Barnes in his commentary has to say about "traditions" and I hope this answers your question. "Received by tradition from your fathers - The mode of worship which had been handed down from father to son. The worship of idols depends on no better reason than that it is that which has been practiced in ancient times; and it is kept up now in all lands, in a great degree, only by the fact that it has had the sanction of the venerated people of other generations." If you read 1Peter1:18-19 you will note an interesting reference to past traditions. "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:" In Christ, Ken. |
