1 | How can we be sure of eternal salvation? | Phil 1:6 | ASReno | 23902
We are living in Germany and have a German friend that accepted Christ as Savior this past year. He has been asking a lot of questions about different topics and we have been able to have some good discussions with him. One question that he has asked and we have not been able to fully satisfy him deals with eternal salvation. How can he be sure that he can not lose his salvation. We have given him many examples from Scripture to answer this but he is still not convinced. Can anyone give me verses that will help him settle this in his heart? Thanks for your help. |

Scripture ... Rom 8; 2 Ti 1:8-12; 1 Jo 2:28-3:24, 5:9-13 ... ASReno, Greetings, I'm trying to catch up after being gone for two weeks. Here are some passages on assurance of salvation. Satan does not want us to have it. I suggest your friend write the date of his spiritual birth. This may help when the doubts comes. Hope this helps, Searcher |

3 | How can we be sure of eternal salvation? | Phil 1:6 | LizLarimer | 31031
Galations 3:3 says "having begun in the spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?"... my question to your friend would be what is he afraid of that he fears COULD cause him to loose his salvation? is that of the flesh? the flesh is not what perfects us - it is the Spirit of God . . . . If we are saved by the Spirit - surely the Spirit will hold us.... I haven't seen that verse used - -or John 10 where Jesus says that those whom the father has given him can not be taken from his hand..... actualy - -the thoughts that help me in this was the question of how many sins did Jesus die for? only my past sins? since His death was looking to forgive all my sins - (then in the future) it must be applied to any sins I may committ after salvation. Did he know I was going to go into that area of sin? If He is omniscient, then He did - - and already knowing that, did he then choose to give me salvation? what makes me think then that He would take back the gift for doing something he knew I would do before the gift was even given to begin with..... It is an awsome thoght - I did not earn my salvation in the first place - and my doing good is not going to be that which causes me to kep that salvation... but the spirit uses our joy and thankfullness for this wonderful gift to change us - - |
