1 | Preaching from envy and strife? | Phil 1:15 | Jman | 86585
mommapbs, thanks so much for your answer. So, is it accurate to say that the people who preached Christ of contention assumed that Paul would be disturbed by their success, in other words, they felt he would be envious of them, and that was their primary motivation for preaching? Also, does the context of verse 14 indicate that even the envious preachers were brethren in the Lord? Just want to get my facts straight. Thanks again for your help. |

2 | Preaching from envy and strife? | Phil 1:15 | Mommapbs | 86588
I don't think that those who preached out of selfsih ambition sought to make Paul envious or cause him distress. I suspect that they sought personal attention - what preacher doesn't like an audience?!! Perhaps you are aware of churches that "compete" for saints? This is an example that comes to mind. Also, I don't think that Paul would respond the way he did if these preachers were not "brethern." He would have exposed any heresy. These are MY opinions, check out a study bible for more info. Blessings, mommapbs |
