Ed.B. YOU SAID: "Where do you get your information? Tongues is from the tower of Babel and dispensationism is from tongues and automatic handwritting (??). That is utter nonsense. Do yourself a favor and don't repeat that." You made statement, but did not support it? PLEASE note I did not say TONGUES (PL)--those were a gift from God and in the Book of Acts and in 1 Cor 14. I did state the "UNKNOWN TONGUE" (Singular--particular vs in 1 Cor 14) which descended down throughout pagan history......and "you" wonder why there is so much diversity among denominations?? You need to take some courses in church history. Apparently from your reply you have not traced any of the doctrines of Scripture in history or more importantly according to the text of Scripture. Read some books: Dispensationalism--RIghtly Dividing the People of God? by Keith Mathison Wrongly Dividing the Word of Truth by John Gerstner Fee, Gordon D. The First Epistle to the Corinthians. Godet, Franz. Commentary on the First Epistle to the Corinthians. MacArthur, John F., Jr. The MacArthur New Testament Commentary: 1 Corinthians Robertson, Archibald, and A. Plummer. A Critical and Exegetical Commentary on the First Epistle to the Corinthians. Spiritual Gifts, by John MacArthur. |

Hello JRdoc You must understand that what you have presented so far concerning dispensationalism has been ad hominem. I was as offended as Ed. I bought and read Mathison's book. It was basically a series of strawman arguments against a poor understanding of the dispensational position. I've considered buying Fee, Godet, and MacArthur. Robertson and Plummer I've not seen before. Steve |

Steve: The original post was not meant as an offense, and I am sorry you take it that way. I guess one is "only allowed" one view of Scripture here....my comment was against what I consider a false system of interpreting Scripture and I thought I had the right here to state that. It was not stated against a "person." Please do a historical study. I am happy that at least you are open to the truth and other persusions....Actually here is something on-line-- http://www.graceonlinelibrary.org/dispensationalism/ Unfortunately looks like SirPen no longer desires me to post or otherwise we could debate it (I have to prepare for teaching classes anyway)...of course history is history and that part would be futile to debate..it is what it is....but dispensationalism is not correct (MacArthur holds to a form of dispensationalism --which I disagree with...and I enjoy most of his stuff, i.e. the reference to unknown tongue (sing)...I added the original post for your understanding). Hopefully the link will assist you in your studies. I will agree that Mathison is not a complete as he could have been, but it is meant only as an introductory study. Hello JRdoc You are certainly free to disagree. We who have been on this forum for some time have learned (often the hard way) the best method for interaction and try to help newcomers along the same way. It's helped me to learn forbearance. Thanks for the reading list. Steve |
