Ok... Now I think I understand why I have been questioned concerning tongues in the singular and the plural. This is a topic which, to me appears superfluous, but it appears to be important in the eyes of some. Can you enlighten me, Tim? Humbly NYP |

Greetings NYP! I'm not sure who orginated the theory, but I do know that Dr. MacArthur advocates it. I love Dr. MacArthur, but this is one area where I disagree with him. :-) When I first heard it, I simply went to the Greek text and looked up every singular occurance of the word 'tongue'. What I found was very enlightening. Scripture simply did not support this theorized difference between the plural and singular. I can't speak for Dr. MacArthur, but one 'benefit' if his theory is true is that one can ignore all of the instructions concerning a 'tongue' because it would be a fake gift, not the real deal. Dr. MacArthur's denomination has a very high level of bias (in my opinion :-) ) against the gift of tongues. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
