1 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Ray | 138243 | ||
Hi Angel, You wrote, "Yet, when we allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the fullness of Truth, we begin to better undertand our Lord's Word:... (John 15:3-6)." Looking at the statement with my usual fetish for capitalization I can agree with the capitalized Truth for you are talking about the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:19). However, when considering God's (w)Word, what are you talking about? In considering John 15:3-6 are you looking for the Lord's God? Or are you considering God's word, the Scriptures? Have you considered John 15:3-6 in other versions, especially the NASB and NKJ and thought about looking at Jesus as the Vine [sic]? Is that a sense in which we can better understand our Lord's Word? Just thoughts to consider. I appreciate your Scripture references and their contrasts. Romans 5:15, "But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of (God) and the gift by the grace of the one **Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many." Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned and come short of the glory of (God). 24 being justified as a gift by **His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;" Romans 3:26, "for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, that (He) might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in **Jesus." 27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but be a law of faith. 28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the law." From the heart, Ray |

Hi, Ray! Jesus tells us that He is the Truth (John 14:6) and that the words that He spoke are "spirit and life" (John 6:63)... I take into consideration that the Word incarnate reveals who He is: the Truth (in Him there is no deceit: "the Father and I are one") and His words give us Life (this life of course is spiritual life in Him)... so to me Jesus' Word is synonymous or congruent to both His Divinity and Scripture (as all Scripture is God-inspired)... by emphasizing Word I am playing on the spoken Commandment inferred by Jesus' Authority (as in His statement "I am the Resurrection and Life"), the transcendency of Scripture (as God's Word) and the Life that Jesus Word offers us! In John 15:3-6 Jesus is revealing, as He did during so many other occasions, that He has the Power to cleans us, to expunge our sins, with just His Word: sheer Authority: Will; consequently, Scripture, being God's Word, is alive and God's Spirit quicken's our spirits and give us Life though His Word (Scripture)! "Jesus as the Vine" Correct! Jesus is not merely using a picturesque metaphor... He is telling us that He is Life, that we are empty vessels that can be filled with God's Holy Spirit or that we can continue in the vacuousness of human intellect and wisdom (whe know where human intellect and wisdom leads!--Romans 8:6)... so when we allow the Holy Spirit to enlighten us, we begin to accept Jesus terms (Will), instead of relying on our own abilities--without Him we can do nothing! Romans 3:23-24 explains this sumbiotic relationship that we have with Jesus: we humble ourselves in obedience and He cleanses us, He makes us whole, and He makes us into God's children! It is through Grace that we Live! God Bless! Angel |
