1 | need help undestanding Eph. 3:10 | Eph 3:10 | JamesO | 137409 | ||
I was recently reading through Ephesians and had a blessed time, only running into difficulty with this particular verse. Am I to understand that God’s intent for the church is that we make known His manifold wisdom to angels? Or is it to earthly rulers? Any insight on this verse would be greatly appreciated. I know it has noting to do with my salvation or relationship with Jesus; it is simply an honest inquiry for better understanding. Eph. 3:10 |

Hello JamesO, I am going to try and answer this using my take on Eph 3: 1-13. I have a New Living Translation Bible, and it reads this way for verse 10: 10God's purpose was to show his wisdom in all its rich variety to all the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms. They will see this when Jews and Gentiles are joined together in his church. Now I know that some do not like the NLT version of the Bible, but it does help me. I read these verses in four or five different translations and was able to come to the conclusion that God's plan was not originally made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. But through the church, body of believers, Paul is speaking to the Gentiles or non-Jewish people, Paul states that God's plan will be revealed when Christians, Jews and Gentiles are joined together as one body called the church. This is further proof that Jesus Christ did not only come to earth for only the Jews, but for all mankind and when we all come together as a body of believers in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, God's plan is revealed. I hope this helps you. Mike |

Dear Mike, Thank you so much for your answer, and yes, it is very helpful and flows right in line with what Paul seems to be talking about overall in “the mystery”. This mystery seems to play out in two parts that really come together in One: 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. It does seem that God’s plans are pretty big and at the time of the writing of this letter it was enough to be able to get across this vast chasm that “16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. 17 AND HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR; 18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household,” Very interesting topic for my wife and I. It is indeed a blessing to know that “…Even angels long to look into these things!” 1 Peter 1:12 |
