1 | Unforgiveable Sin? | Eph 1:7 | CDBJ | 166601
Greetings ebrain, Sorry about the confusion on the post, sometimes I get my tongue in front of my eye teeth and I can’t see what I’m going to say. Let see if I can be a little more to the point. The question -------------- what is---------------- "The unforgivable sin" Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. Well it’s pretty obvious what the “unforgivable sin” is, blasphemy against the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. The question should be: What is meant by the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? This has been a hotly debated subject for years, especially in the charismatic circles. It has been my understanding that Scripture is the best interpreter of Scripture; I would like to start with the following Scripture. John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. The him, in the previous verse, is the one called alongside to help. i.e. the Holy Spirit of God or what we as Christians refer to as the Third Person of the Trinity, or The Revealer. Notice the work of the Spirit, the one not to reject or blaspheme againt,--------- revelation. John 16:13-14 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. [14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Compare the previous verses with John 16:8 just using only, if I may, the first part. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin. The “big question is”, what sin, there is only one sin, singular, that will make any difference in eternity and that’s because it’s the only sin that God’s son wasn’t able to pay for on the cross. The Answer: and the unforgivable sin is. John 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is when anyone continually rejects the convicting and reveling work of the Holy Spirit. It is God the Holy Spirit that is shows mankind exactly who the person of Jesus the Christ is and what He did for them as an individual. And if you understand this, it’s only because God has revealed it to you, praise the Lord! CDBJ |

2 | Unforgiveable Sin? | Eph 1:7 | ebrain | 166615
Thank you again CDBJ for your instructive post, I am sure many will find it most helpfull. Allow me to say something about the background to Matthew Ch 12 vs 22-32, the Pharisees taught that anyone could perform Miracles who was empowered to do so by the Holy Spirit, but only the Messiah (Son of David) when He came would be able to perform certain Miracles, and one of these was to cast out a demon that caused a person to be "Mute". This is why in v 23, the people were amazed, and said "Can this be the Son of David", the unspoken words were "This man has just performed what you Pharisees have allways told us could only be performed by the Messiah?". The Pharisees who enjoyed their position of power, and authority, over the comon people and had made it clear "We will not have this man to rule over us", now found themselves in an impossible position. There was no way in which they were prepared to confirm His Messiahship, because they knew full well that if they did, they were finished, and whats more due for judgment. The only way out they could see was to do exactly what the did, that is to credit the Holy Spirit's work to the Devil, and that is what is unforgivable. Other Miracles that the Pharisees maintained could only be performed by Messiah, were , opening the eyes of a person who had been born blind, not one who had become blind in later life, clensing lepers, and raising a person back from the dead after three days. Have you ever wondered why Jesus "stayed two days longer" (John 11:6,) if He had not done this, then Lazarus would have only been dead two days, and not four. Remember if it is recorded in Scripture, then it is there for a very good reason. God bless you all. Edwin Brain. |
