1 | Quench the Spirit until extinguish? | Gal 5:17 | New Creature | 116338 | ||
CurtMan; In my previous reply, I merely posted Adam Clarkes Commentary on the verse. If your asking me for my own thoughts on "Quenching the Spirit" then I will say that I personally believe it is possible to completely quench, or extinguish the Spirit. Otherwise the command to "not quench the Spirit" would appear to me as being useless. What would be the sense for someone to ask you not to do that which is not possible. That's my two-cents worth. Maybe it's not even worth that much. Let each reader be fully convicted in his/her own heart concerning the truth about this. |

I totally disagree with you. I think your two-cents worth are worth more than two cents. I am in need of some info. pretaining to Adam Clarke. What do you have or suggest?? I'm interested in knowing what his beliefs are in someone loosing their salvation, and especially the 8th chp. of Romans. Could you point the way?? I'd greatly appreciate it. The CurtMan |

CurtMan, Adam Clarke was a famous preacher and commentator of the Wesleyan movement and is thus generally of the Arminian (non-determinist) position. Because his commentaries are in the public domain, they are available in many CD-ROM collections. They are also available on-line at http://www.godrules.net/library/clarke/clarke.htm. As to your questions on his views on Romans 8, you will find his comments on Romans 8 at http://www.godrules.net/library/clarke/clarkerom8.htm. By way of full disclosure, I (in accord with New Creature) agree with Clarke and disagree with the determinist position. That is my unsolicited, one and one-half cents worth. Winston Churchill |
