1 | Is "slavery" condemned in the Bible? | Gal 3:28 | Grace and Truth | 48880
Slavery at that time, was okay in God's sight because the master was to deal with his or her sevant as a brother or sister in Christ. Philemon 10,11, 16. So the answer to your question is no the Bible dose not condemn. (1 Tim. 6:1). So sacred is the authority of God and his doctrine, those early saints were obliged to be good slaves that such truths be not injured. [The sweet influences of the Christian religion would, of course, in time cause the vile business of slavery to lose much of its grip on humanity.]
2 | Is "slavery" condemned in the Bible? | Gal 3:28 | lovetruth | 48889
God’s plea: “Rebuke the oppressor…” (Isaiah 1:17) "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:5-6) “How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.” (Psalm 82:2; 3) BTW Jesus identified himself with the oppressed! He taught that what one does to the least, one does it to him. |
