CurtMan. By the pen name, I mean you are not curt, quick to cut people off. I mean it as sincere jest of respect and kindness. I for the last 38 years have had one serious illness after the next. I spent a yesr in a US Navy hospital. I have seldom gone a year with out being in the hospital. I see the specialists the least is thre times a month. For a long time I keep looking at Romans *:28 and could see no good coming from any of this suffering. Then when I had reached a braking piont I prayed to the Lord to show me why Romans 8:28 was not true for me. I was desperate, and upset at the Lord. Them the Lord led me to read verse 29. There is said we are to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus His Son. How was that conformity to come? Through suffering! I then began to track verses in Scripture that deal with suffering. I now have a very lengthy thread and have seen that through suffering we are conformed to Christ likeness. With that It makes no difference if I see the good or not, it is the Lord who knows the why and hows of it all. That changed my life of pain and physically challenged body. I also am glad the Lord made me a type A personality, or I might have given up long ago. C. S. Lewis has writen some excellent works on suffering. The movie ShadowLands is very good and well worth buying if you ever can find it. I have watched it many times and that got me interested in Lewis's books. Yes we have a number of things in common. However the best of all is our shared salvation in Jesus Christ. Blessings. justme |

Well Justme, you've offered me two different and fresh perspectives. One is my name, I've never heard that one before, however, you are right. I am one of those happy go lucky with a cornball since of humor type guy, so don't worry about me being offended. The second is your perspective on Romans 8:28-29. As far as my illness, and that verse was concerned, I kinda looked at it from a different point of view. God knew before I was born that I was going to end up being his child. He protected me from others and others from me until that time came. He also knew that getting my attention, although not impossible, wasn't going to be to easy either. The thing with pain is, the right amount of it will just about always bring a person to call on the name of the Lord. Ever notice that?? I saw Romans 8:28-29 as God using what was at His disposal to get my attention in such a way I didn't turn my back on Him nor run. Plus I have a testimony that make most Dr's stand up and take notice. Through my illness, however painful it may be at times, I have escaped spiritual death, and ten yrs. overdue on the physical one. In my opinion, that's how my God, worked my illness out to my good and helped me to want to conformed to the image of His Son. Any thoughts or comments?? The CurtMan |

CrtMan: I think we both have seen Psalm 139 describe out life and that the Lord does know our days even before we were born. To me that is an awasome thought. When anyone has a cronic illness the drain it takes on the family of the ill one is just as hard as the one suffering. Often the care giver gives out before the ill person passes or is well. Churches have a hard time being able to consistantly be of encouragement and keeping up the energy required to help year after year. I believe that to look into the Master and asking for wisdom and strength to endure is essential to enduring the long path that is set before one so bound by illness. Our attude is very important if Jesus is to gain praise for what is endured, as a good and faithful follower. Blessings. justme |

That my friend is nothing but the truth. One particular arena that we are blessed in is that we both have someone to care for us. Our wives, friends, and church members. Not everyone is so blessed. I work in a hospital. One that is mostly for the elderly. It's heartbreaking to see the patients go through what they go through all by themselves. It's like they have no one to care for them. | ||||||

The CurtMan: As I read your note, it dawned on me. This loneliness is exactly what Jesus experienced on the Cross. Totally alone, He died to save us. So those who feel alone perhaps need to be reminded that Jesus knows exactly what they are going through. Thanks for that thought. justme |
