Dear prayon, Greetings in the name of Jesus! My friend, I am afraid that you are (possibly) asking the wrong question. :-) All of the answers you are getting seem to be from those who: 1) Don't want to give as much as 10 percent to their local church. 2) Don't want to give as much as 10 percent to God. 3) Are willing to give but want to do it THEIR way. 4) Are just being argumentative. 5) Are hung up on legalism regarding the Law :-) 6) Are not comitted in their hearts to their local church, i.e. their pastor, their leadership, their fellowship. 7) Are hung up on free will, they don't want anyone telling them anything for any reason. 8) Are so poor that they cannot afford to give 10 percent or more of their meager income. 9) Are better than their leadership, and cannot trust their own church to use their hard-earned money without express consent. 10) Are so rich that their taxes are so high that their remaining income is so little that the cannot live after tithing. 11) Any or 9 out of 10 of the above! Tithing to your local church is not a difficult conclusion to come to, whether you have specific Scripture to be 'required to' or not. It takes a certain amount of money to serve God's people. Period. People, by nature, are not very faithful when it comes to money. So, you can decide upon a simple tithe/offering from the heart situation, or you can ask for money all the time. I prefer the former. Frankly, IMHO, the latter 'milking' or 'fleecing shorn sheep' method is less effective; more of a burden on the faithful-but- monetarily-challenged, and more of an opportunity to 'lift up' the 'humility-challenged' rich who publicly come up with money to meet the appeal only after the 'lesser' folks have given 'til it hurts. Instituting the simpler method, and then giving it unto the Lord, and not harping on it, makes more sense, and makes all feel better (except maybe greedy ministers). So, the real question might be, "What is a sensible way for Christians to give their monetary offerings to God?" I submit this idea to all for approval/disapproval/indignant outrage. Charis, I would like share with you some of our doctrine in our church. It was the head of our church who discourage us not to give tithe but love offering. He is the one taught us that tithe is no longer the requirements of giving. Our head of the church set as the a live example to us. He built a convention center for our church worth more than 20 million dollars in equivalent. He source the found from his own pocket considering that this convention center registered as the property of the church. When the time come that he can no longer sustain the funds because its too big for him, he asked help from us if how much we can help him because he has no money to finish the building. We contribute not all of us with no required amount. Some of us gave big and some other not give at all because they cannot afford, but it is okay. Now we have that convention center. It is the head of our church who taught us not to give tithe but love offering. It is not me or any member of our church who are not willing to gave. I am not saying that you mentioned that I am the one who dont want to give, Just explain in my own case. If you want me to try explain that believed in this forum, I will try to do so with a passages supporting to it. Thank you Johnny |

Dear Johnny, Greetings in Jesus' name! Great story! Does your local church need a 20 million dollar equivalent convention hall? How often do you hear about the need for funds to support this convention center? Does everyone in the church know the names and amounts of those that 'gave big?' Will you hold on to this convention center, no matter what, even if it is a drain on the entire resources of the church? My friend, I do not intend these questions to be mean or facetious! I only ask them because of foolishness and financial abuse I have witnessed in the church. My 'scenario' seems to work better, and glorify God longer, though maybe without the 'spikes' of glory. :-) Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

Charis, The convention center is not just for our local church i am sorry not to mentioned, it was our national covention center. All local church meet thier if they can. If we have a big celebration or whatsoever we held it on that convention center so we can accomodate more people like visitors and observer. In addition, inside that convention center has a small hospital that accomadate person cannot pay amount in the hospital. This convention center also open for the people victims of flood or storm if they dont have place to go. (it is open to member or non-member of the church) Meaning we built it in purpose of course. To those gave big amount just to finish that building they are motivated to gave because the saw the effort of our founder to have that convention center. As a matter of fact our founder sold many of his own property just to fund that convention center. To finish the story, our founder asking us to help him it was almost finish may 10 percent of the building was not yet finish. Meaning it was the 10 percent of the said 20 million we are tried to source at the time. |
