1 | Is inter cultural marriage advisable? | 2 Cor 6:14 | Praise Be To God | 133224 | ||
Hello. God told the Children of Israel not to intermarry because He knew they would be led away by their idols. In fact, God forbade intermarriage with the other peoples. But, did Israel obey? Time and again, they disobeyed and time and again, they were led away from God to worship the idols of that nation. And time and again, they came back to God, only to be led away again. God never changes. He is the same today and forever. He wants us to marry Believers: In I Corinthians 7:8-16, Paul gives us some insight into what God wants for us, but Paul is speaking to Believers: "I say therefore, to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry, for it is better to marry than to burn. And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now they are holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases; but God hath called us to peace. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband: or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife? But as God has distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches." So, if we are already married, but one becomes saved and the other does not, you are not to leave the unsaved partner, for the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now they are holy. But, we are not to marry an unbeliever if we are a believer. 2 Corinthians 6:14 (above) makes that very plain: "Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?" But, there is nowhere in the Bible which says we are not to intermarry culturally, as long as that person is a Believer. That is the key. Ruth was from Moab, but she followed Naomi's God, and was King David's Great-grandmother, and in the earthly lineage of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Blessings to you. Janae. |

Hi, Janae! Excellent point on David's descendency... many bigoted people think that they can use the Old Testament mandates to claim Scriptural separation of race and ethnicity... They reject every passage where Yahweh tells His people that if foreigners come to live among them and they subject themselves to all that is prescribed to the people of Israel they are to be treated as the children of Israel; there is further Scripture that commands that foreigners bought as slaves (who being subject to their masters would adopt all of the religious obligations of their masters) be allowed to partake of all worship as part of their owners household... As you so rightly expressed, Scripture does not teach separation of race/ethnicity but separation of worship! Yahweh is a jealous God and He did not allow His people to share His Glory with others--and God does not change! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Janae! Correction: "David's descendency" ...should read: "David's ancestry" I've just proven the old adage: "haste makes waste!" God Bless! Angel |
