Greetings Mommabps! Is it possible to be "too heavenly minded"?? How far can we go?? Is there any 'ceiling' in walking with God? Elijah and Enoch knew no such 'ceiling.' Excellent question. I believe that there is no such thing as "going too far with God." As we continue to walk and immerse our lives in the Spirit, we continue to find our flesh as less and less appealing. The sure-fire antidote to any sin is to walk in the Spirit. Sure, we can get rid of things, or try to "beat" sin out of our flesh.. But the mind will always return you to your sin and remind you of it unless you cleanse your mind by walking in the Spirit (Rom. 12:2). So how far can we walk in His Spirit? Just how far can we go? Only as far as we will let Him take us. It is a question of our will- we will all feel very much ashamed if we do not yield to Him to the point that He has asked us to yield to Him. We must surrender our will over to Him, an absolute and irrevocable surrender to Him. An over-consideration of ourselves results in our hesitation, and no worker is fit for the plow if he looks back. God knows exactly what our obedience to Him will cost ourselves and all others around us. He knows. We must be determined and of one will with His- to shut out all consideration and debate, to keep yourself before God for this one thing only - to give your all to Him as a living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1). I am determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone. Whether this means life or death, no matter! :-) Abandon all thought of the outside consequences! Abandon totally to Him! We must surrender our will to Him, absolutely and irrevocably. When we do this, our Spiritual journey has begun, and may it never, ever, ever end!!! Makarios |

Thanks for your wonderful response. This oft-used quote bothered me as it seemed to be an excuse to "shrink back" - especailly when one comes across a believer with an "holier than thou" attitude. Yet as you have observed, when we decide to walk with the Lord, it is on this journey where we are united with His will to be used for HIS purposes. God has a plan for His creation and He desires our participation in that plan. We are here on earth to serve Him, and to be served by Him (The Son of man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many Mt 20:28)! We are His instruments through which HE serves those whose lives intersect with ours! When we are truly "heavenly minded" we realize that eternity is our destination; life is fleeting and temorary. When we know that we are "heaven bound" and the only "treasure" that we can "store up in heaven" is what God treasures (people), it makes us even more earthly minded as we understand the urgency of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. I suspect that those who come across as "holy rollers" are winding their will around what they think God wants them to do rather than to submit to His hand. I find it hard to see how they can be any earthly good with such an attitude; but who am I to judge? God can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear - all He requires is a willing pig! It has taken me a long time to decide to walk with Him, but there is no better path, and no better Travelling companion. (And I like the feel of silk better too!) Indeed, He is saving the BEST for last - oh what a Day that will be! Blessings, mommapbs |
