1 | scripture on why we go through trials | 2 Cor 12:10 | stjohn | 215540
Hi LovemyLord, "Why go through them?" Thats a good question. I would say because Jesus want's to build strong Christians characters with strong Christian character. We seldom learn anything of great value when things are going smoothly. We tend to just sit back and enjoy the ride. But God want's us to grow and learn to be fighters for truth and His Holy Word, and in spreading His Gospel of Salvation to the lost world. This is a tough job that takes mentally and spiritually tough people to do and do well. Paul writes in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians: "And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Cor 12:9-10 And in Romans 15:1: "Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves." 2 | scripture on why we go through trials | 2 Cor 12:10 | lionheart | 215561
John, A couple good scriptures that go well with this subject are are 2 Timothy 3:12 and Hebrews 12:4-12. God never promised any of us a smooth ride, but he did promis us that he would be with us and that he would give us the strength to bare up. In Him, lionheart |

3 | scripture on why we go through trials | 2 Cor 12:10 | stjohn | 215566
Amen, Lionheart, One of my favorite verses, that I try to keep hidden in my heart (meaning to remember and know by heart) is, Hebrews 12:8 "But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons." What a comfort it is to know when we go through discipline that, we do so not because we are not son's, but because we are son's, son's of the most high, mighty, and sovereign God. John |
