In considering what Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 9:19-20ff, how does the Emerging Church fit in? The Emerging Church (as stated by Mark Driscoll)has as it's chief emphasis, that of, "living in the tension of being culturally liberal yet theologically conservative". Can a church be both missional in it's practice and evangelical and biblical in it's theology? Does this present any problems or compromise? If so, how? |

Perhaps a better question is any "Church" biblical. That is "Church" as in a building or denomination or heirarchial order. A gathering or assembling of believers in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to encourge each other to love and good works is in the scriptures. What we do today (Emergent or otherwise)- not so much. |

Allen, The major problem here with Christian and non Christian alike is they have no concept of what the Church is. To many when the word church is mentioned all that is seen or initially recognised is denominationalism. To be frankly honest many times it's professing Christians that are the biggest offenders in this respect. Acts,Romans, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4 paint precise pictures of what the Church is and these are only a few of passages we have through out the New Testament. In Him, lionheart |
