1 | CAN A WIFE SANTIFY HER HUSBAND? | 1 Cor 7:14 | zon | 179720 | ||
Bible man, Is there a verse in the Pauline or Catholic Epistles (1 and 2 Timothy or 1 and 2 Peter) that states a wife can sanctify her husband? I would swear on a stack of Bibles that I read it several years ago. In the last couple of weeks I have read the above NT books in a number of versions and it is driving me crazy. (We have a wonderful time with another couple. When we all went to Hawaii, he wanted to go to church on Sunday. At church he sings louder than the three "Christians" but he clearly states he is not a Christian when asked. He is more upright in his money dealings than I, and my wife and I consider ourselves above reproach unitl he mentions a flaw like the use of certain software in certain applications. His behavior is like a Christian, he reads his Bible and knows it quite well, we have discussions on it over dinner. He wants to be around Christians. In Hawaii, he located a church and drove the three Bible college graduates when we went on vacation together, but doesn't want the title. In my 40 years in ministry I've never met such a cunundrum.) |

Hello, Zon I am a new mamber here as well, but this scripture comes to mind: 1 Cor 12:3, Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. So I would ask your friend this: Can you say Jesus is Lord? if he answers and repeats then he IS a Christian, if not then you know what you need to do... |

Dear emills, Welcome to the forum. I not convinced that Paul intended this passage (1 Corinthians 12:3) to be the kind of test you are trying to make of it. Regardless, it isn't the mere repetition of a phrase that he is talking about. Instead, what he means is that no one can acknowledge himself as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, except by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. We must be careful not to use a passage to mean something it never was meant to mean. :-) In Him, Doc |
