2 | Will we know each other in Heaven? | 1 Cor 15:52 | bible believer | 201679
good afternoon carol: just as you noted in your Scripture reference, we will definitely be different (changed)in heaven. PTL....free of these earthly bodies and into our glorified ones! Scripture also indicates that although our relationships with each other will be different (no marriages in heaven...Matt 22:30), our "knowledge" will actually increase. "Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." 1 Cor 13:12 in addition, since the disciples were able to recognize Jesus in His glorified body, one would think that we would be able to recognize each other in ours. all this being said, Scripture does not address this topic as specifically as we mortals would like. we can rest in the fact that there are many things that our human minds just can't understand about the work of God. yet we know that He has things planned for us in heaven that are good and will make sense to us once we're there. "The secret things belong to the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever" Deut 29:29 its wonderful to contemplate the exciting reality of heaven. i pray that it comforts and encourages you as well. |

Quick correction: In the new heaven and earth we will be in our resurrected bodies. That is, these bodies that we have now will be raised. The bible does not support the idea of "new" bodies. That understanding is the basis for the respectful care rendered to the bodies of the dead in both Jewish and Christian traditions. "The bodies of men after death return to dust, and see corruption; but their souls, which neither die nor sleep, having an immortal subsistence, immediately return to God who gave them. The souls of the righteous being then made perfect in holiness, are received into paradise, where they are with Christ, and behold the face of God in light and glory, waiting for the full redemption of their bodies; and the souls of the wicked are cast into hell; where they remain in torment and utter darkness, reserved to the judgment of the great day; besides these two places, for souls separated from their bodies, the Scripture acknowledgeth none. (Genesis 3:19; Acts 13:36; Ecclesiastes 12:7; Luke 23:43; 2 Corinthians 5:1, 6,8; Philippians 1:23; Hebrews 12:23; Jude 6, 7; 1 Peter 3:19; Luke 16:23, 24)" --1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, chapter 31, paragraph 1 |

hi doc: while not "new" (different) bodies they are not the "same" (functioning)bodies- i agree with you that they are our old bodies resurrected but, as i said, they are definitely "glorified" bodies- free of all the earthly limitations (disease, physical corruption etc.)---functioning on a VERY different level! i think basically you and i agree on what God's word has to say to us in this matter although perhaps we express it a little differently, limited by our method of communication (typing vs. face to face conversation!) i don't believe that further nitpicking would add value to this thread, so i close with thanks for your contribution. |

Whew... "nitpicking?" I want every jot and tittle of God's revealed truth! Every crumb that falls from His table is of incredible worth and relevance! But... wait, though... He has emphasized this particular truth in Old and New Testaments. He has expressed it in four distinct genres of Scripture. Since the days of its infancy, His church, by the Holy Spirit, has recognized this importance by repeated confession and creed. So... Rather than be satisfied with our rough approximations, shrugging off our inaccuracies, and excusing our error as unimportant minutia... let us love the Word of God, through which the Holy Spirit works to set us free. Let us demonstrate that we are Bible believers indeed! |

hi doc: i'm not going to take the bait you've tossed but assuming that you've got something additional you wish to say, perhaps this is a communication which would be better continued "off line"? if not, once again, i don't believe the back and forths (yes, even yours!)have added value to this thread. i'd be happy to discuss the Bible and theology with you but i think you left that realm behind a couple of "notes" ago. should you wish to revisit it, just let me know. |

Son, its a public forum. Our every idle word will be judged. Why wouldn't we assume that that is not every bit as true of our typed words? Hidden agendas don't serve anyone's purpose, nor do they reflect the righteous character of our Lord. False doctrine must be corrected whenever and wherever possible, since a small amount of leaven leavens the whole loaf. I've tried to write as plainly, clearly, and concisely as I am able. (Perhaps with too much haste, since my time is currently so reduced.) My email address is in my profile for anyone interested in a private exchange.
