1 | Why so blind? | 1 Cor 13:12 | John Reformed | 91548 | ||
George, 1 Cor 12:30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? 1 Cor 14:22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; Paul said that not all believers are given the gift, and that, tongues are for a sign to unbelievers. In my 10 years as a member of a pentacostal church, NOT ONCE did I hear a person speak in german or chinese or swahili. Their words were ALWAYS in (what was called) a heavenly or angelic language. The message was invariably an exhortation or "prophetic" word to the congregation. But prophecy itself is a different gift from tongues, and prophecy is for believers. And if tongues is for unbelievers, why are people using tongues to issue prophecy? Why not simply prophecy in the the native language of the congregation? The Bereans were not afraid to ask Paul to prove his doctrine with Scripture; neither should we be shy about asking our pastors and teachers to do the same. Fod Bless, John |

By the way John. Did I say they did? I simply asked a question. A simple yes or no would have been sufficient, I wasn't really expecting a debate on the subject, which was aside from the original question in the first place. George |
