1 | Does the Father have a God? | 1 Cor 12:3 | stevenhh | 138099 | ||
Hi all again, On the 16th of this month, I asked for an explaination of 2 Cor 1:3. I got some 50 responses but none that attempted to help me explain this verse. So I'll ask it again, word for word: I work with a Unitarian man and we talk Bible a couple of times every week. He believes the Unitarian creed, which holds the holy spirit to be just the influence of the Almighty God on the minds of his servants,dwelling in the hearts of believers, as the source of their spiritual life. He also showed me just yesterday 2 Cor 1:3, Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Here he says is proof that the trinity is not Bible based. I told him that he couldn't just pick out one scripture and make a whole doctrine out of it. But he said that there were many more bible verses that showed that Jesus has a God but Almighty God doesn't, and that proves Jesus isn't the Almighty God. He's very sharp when it comes to the Bible and I study it too, regularly. Being a Baptist, I try to prove him wrong about who God really is. He told me he would show me more verses that shows him that the trinity is not a bible teaching. He seems very sincere. So for now, any suggestions from anyone about this verse 2 Cor 1:3? Thanks |

Greetings Stevenhh! The simplest way to explain 2 Cor. 1:3, and all the other Scriptures that seem to place Jesus at a lower lever than the Father is to understand that they all describe Jesus during His incarnation. During the incarnation, the Father was Jesus' God. During the incarnation, God is His Father. During the incarnation, Jesus is subject to the Father. During the incarnation, there are things that Jesus does not know. However, there are many verses that describe the essential and eternal nature of Jesus. These verses make it clear the Jesus is God. For example, John 1:1-14, Phil. 2:5-11, Tit. 2:13, and John 8:58. Phil. 2:5-11 is especially powerful. How can someone be equal to God unless one is God? I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but I would highly recommend that you become more familiar with a doctrine before you try to debate and/or explain it to a cult member. Pick up a good theology book and do a study of the doctrine of the Trinity. I would recommend Millard Erickson. He is precise, but easy to understand. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim Moran Thanks. As a matter of fact i did mention to him that this was describing their relationship during the time Jesus was on earth. He just told me well, duh, that's obvious but there's bible verses that shows that this true after his death. He didn't know where they were at the time but would find them. He then said such a simplistic explanation would be an insult to the the Bible's clear message. Anyway, I'm going to cover the verses in John 1:1-14, Phil. 2:5-11, Tit. 2:13, and John 8:58 and Phil. 2:5-11 with him. Thanks again. |

Hello Stevenhh, God or god? When translators place a capital "G" in the word God, he is translating a specific thought since the early Greek didn't distinguish lower or capital cases. Thus, the first English tranlation is very interesting. The site: http://www.richard-2782.com/tynjohn.htm provides William Tyndale's translation of John 1:1 as different from the King James, New American Standard Bible, and the NIV translations. In fact, it agrees with the Jehovah's Witnesses' New World Translation, and an old 1808 translation "The New Testament, in An Improved Version", Upon the Basis of Archbishop Newcome's New Translation: With Corrected Text, London and other translatons. |
