Not all promises made in the Bible are for everyone, including Mark 16:17-18. Since you have not drank deadly poisons, this promise fall short for you. | ||||||

No it is not, first of all I have not died yet - I still have a life ahead of me. (Henry) Deadly poisons - "If they be compelled by their persecutors to drink any deadly poisonous thing" not that they were hereby warranted to drink poison, to show what power they had; but should they accidentally drink it, or rather should they be forced to it by their enemies in order to destroy them, they should find no hurt by it (Gill) I guess this couldn't apply to even the apostles then because the bible does not give an example of this happening. Also if taking this literally it can violate the Principle of Literature in Bible Interpretation. prayon |

So is drinking deadly poison the only one to not be taken literally? Who decides what should be taken literally? If a Christian was forced to drink deadly poison does this eman he was not a believer ... or this promise is false? My point is that while some of these promises may be fulfilled today, it doesn't have to mean this passage is the basis. The reason for these signs was because the preaching of the Gospel was new and they were needed. Even more, speaking in a tongue of the natives - new to the speaker only. Also, Satan has copied all these signs, or faked them. |
