1 | Who groans - us or the Holy Spirit? | Rom 8:26 | kalos | 148303
There is no rule against it, but it is not desirable, when addressing a question to a specific individual, to post it under the heading of Question. I.e., while addressing a question to an individual, as part of an existing thread, when you are asked, Is this a Question or a Note, it would be better to identify it as a Note. If two people who are engaged in a dialogue with each other post their responses as Questions, then other people must scroll and scroll and scroll through the so-called "Questions", which are really intended for individuals, before they can get to the Questions that are questions for everyone. I find this kind of posting to be distracting and annoying. I mean no offense here. Now that we have that out of the way, Searcher, you make a good point in your post. -- it is the Holy Spirit who makes intercession -- as you say, it is not us. In Romans 8:26 it does not say the Spirit prays THROUGH us. It says the Spirit makes intercession FOR us. |

2 | Who groans - us or the Holy Spirit? | Rom 8:26 | Morant61 | 148306
Greetings Kalos! As I mentioned previously my friend, I would not be dogmatic on Rom. 8:26. However, I could address your concern. Acts 2:4 describes speaking in tongues as a result of 'the Spirit giving them the utterance'. It is also quite clear that those speaking in tongues often (and those listening) did not understand what they were saying. Therefore, isn't it possible that tongues could be an instance of the Spirit interceding for us, by giving us the utterance? Just a thought! :) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | Who groans - us or the Holy Spirit? | Rom 8:26 | Searcher56 | 148310
Tim, greetings ... what does the Greek say here? You and I both know we better not rely on the logic we read in the English. Methinks the Greek proves it is the Holy Spirit doing the utterance ... but not through us. Searcher
4 | Who groans - us or the Holy Spirit? | Rom 8:26 | Morant61 | 148327
Greetings Searcher! I don't think that the Greek helps much here! The last clause simply says, "...but the Spirit Himself intercedes with inexpressible groanings:" It does not saying anything about how the groanings are uttered, just that they are uttered by the Spirit Himself.
