1 | What separates Evangelicals, Catholics? | Rom 3:28 | Makarios | 10069 | ||
Excellent question JVH0212!! The Catholics also believe in a "One True Church".. That is, that their church is the ONLY church and all who do not attend or are a part of their church are going to hell. The Catholics also believe in the 'elevation' of certian individuals in certain ways, such as the Pope who is considered as "infallible in matters of doctrine and morals", Mary who is seen as part Deity herself, dead saints who can be 'prayed' out of purgatory and into heaven, and local priests who have the ability to 'forgive sins', when all of these individuals are (or were) merely human beings just like you and me. Catholic tradition is equated with, and somewhat surpasses, the very Word of God in their view of divine authority. What is the signifance of the Rosary or 20 "Hail Marys"? Protestants and Catholics also differ on Confession, the Mass (the Lord's Supper), and Penance. There is also something called "Indulgences".. Catholics and Protestants even read the Bible in two different ways! Yes, there is some "common ground", but there is also much that divides Catholics and Protestants. Are the Catholics willing to see any other interpretation than their own that is heavily influenced by their tradition? Are Catholics Christians? I believe that there are true Christians in the Catholic Church, even though I would never be a part of the Catholic Church, being a Christian myself. Question to all Catholics: Is it more important to be a Catholic or more important to be a Christian? Nolan |

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." |

Hello again, Brian.g! How do you tie in Matthew 16:18 with the Catholic church, since Christ Himself is the chief cornerstone (1 Peter 2:6,7)? Blessings! Nolan |
