Number 5 Infallibility is: Exemption or immunity from liability to error or failure. Like the father of a family, the authority of the father is absolute. His wife and children may discuss and debate with him, but when the final decision of the father is made and that decision is truly made in the best interest of the family, then his decision must be accepted and followed. When the decision is made out of love and commitment to his family, then there will be no wrong decisions made, there will be no decisions which the family cannot accept. The father will be accorded the respect of infallibilty - the exemption or immunity from liability to error or failure. We, as members of the Church, must humble ourselves to understand and believe that the man choosen as the successor to Peter is a good and honorable man committed to Gods law and that his decisions are made with the best interest of the Church, her members and in accordance with God's law. He must also be accorded the same respect of infallibility - the exemption or immunity from liability to error or failure. |

Dear Brian.g, I appreciate you providing the Catholic view of why the pope is considered infallible.. However, I do just have a small question to ask: Is the pope a man? If so, how can Catholics render the pope infallible in light of Scriptures like Romans 3:23? Just asking... --Nolan |

I'm afraid I wasn't clear in my definition. It does not say that the Pope is without error or failure It says if he is wrong or perceived as being worng - his decision will still be accepted - because his decision is made with good intentions. He will be given the benefit of doubt. |

2 Timothy 43 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. |

7 | Evangelicals and Catholics | Rom 3:28 | Brian.g | 12453 | ||
I am quoting this because I am not the enemy. If you only listen to what you want to hear, you will miss a great deal of wisdom that can be found from the other people within this forum. In addition to a better understanding of God, you have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of your fellow man. I have found my understanding of my fellow man actually helps me, better understand God and Jesus. My ministry is the sick and dying. Hearing what these people think and feel as they prepare for death has enabled me to understand the teachings of Jesus more than I could ever have hoped for. And not out of fear of death, because I don't fear death - but out of seeing living, breathing examples of what Jesus has tried to teach us. Again, I am not the enemy and maybe we can learn from each other. |

Yes, we can learn from each other. It is this very teachable spirit that we must have in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, being a servant to each other in Christian love. I do not consider you as "the enemy".. Believe me, the enemy is trying extremely hard to break or counteract our fellowship. I consider you as a Brother in Christ even though I disagree with you on several points concerning church history, tradition.. But we both agree that God is Tri-une in nature! At least that is a start. --Nolan |
