1 | Is God Sovereign in the Church today? | Rom 1:22 | mark d seyler | 168496
Hi Brad, Perhaps this has some bearing on the question you are asking. The following is an exerpt from a letter endorsed by over 10,000 American pastors. I do not endorse this letter. "While virtually all Christians take the Bible seriously and hold it to be authoritative in matters of faith and practice, the overwhelming majority do not read the Bible literally, as they would a science textbook. Many of the beloved stories found in the Bible – the Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the ark – convey timeless truths about God, human beings, and the proper relationship between Creator and creation expressed in the only form capable of transmitting these truths from generation to generation. Religious truth is of a different order from scientific truth. Its purpose is not to convey scientific information but to transform hearts. We the undersigned, Christian clergy from many different traditions, believe that the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist. We believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge and achievement rests. To reject this truth or to treat it as “one theory among others” is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such ignorance to our children." Quoted from: http://www.uwosh.edu/colleges/cols/religion_science_collaboration.htm Of course, God wrote His Own letter to them: Romans 1 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, Maybe it's because people, in the church and out, don't believe what they read in the Bible. The following words of Jesus also come to my mind: Rev 3 15 'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. May God help us to worship Him in spirit and in truth! Love in Christ, Mark |

2 | Is God Sovereign in the Church today? | Rom 1:22 | lionheart | 168506
Mark, Good day brother, 10,000 pastors,I'm flabergasted. If thats whats comming from the pulpits of these churches is it a wonder that so many fellowships are dead or dying. It explains allot of why Gods people are so often at odds with oneanother. To treat Gods Word as anything less than absolute is an out and out lie. Boy oh boy. When I see stuff like that it brings 2 Timothy chapter 3 into real clear focus. I hope this serves as a wake up call for those of us who have had any doubts about whats out there. The truth is the truth whether anyone believs it or not. Thanx for the input on a very crucial subject. In Christ, lionheart |
