1 | OT practices not followed today? | Rom 14:5 | plinsky | 58827
As I have been reading through Deuteronomy, I am struck by some of the laws and commands that seem extreme to us today (i.e., certain dietary restrictions, not allowing anyone "unclean" into the camp, verses such as Deut. 13: 12-16 and Deut. 25:11-12). Can anyone comment on how certain practices have survived to this day and others have not? I know that Jesus came to bring us a new covenant, and that as Christians we are not bound by all the laws of the old covenant. However, certain practices remain - why? And if a Jew doesn't believe in Jesus, why are some the laws of the OT followed, but not others? Sorry if this question has been answered before - I couldn't find it. Thank you! |

2 | OT practices not followed today? | Rom 14:5 | Scribe | 58828
Romans 14:5-6 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. Good Question. The New Testament had much to say about how such things as all meats were indeed clean and the message behind the dietery laws was the point, though in thier blindness they never did get it. The Truth has now come which is Jesus Christ and our personal relationship with Him. Sin is still around and we must resist it but we do so by the more obvious methods of not "eating unclean things" such as watching ungodly TV shows that fill our minds with sexual lusts, or not "touching the unclean things" such as living in sexual sins, alcohol, anger wrath, pride, and other sins of the flesh. The blind man will not eat pork but will sleep with a new girlfriend every few months. The blind Jew will keep laws that are convienient to give him a sense of legal obligations yet not ones that he considers too much of a drudgery or ones that might be impractical. The reason some Jews who do not believe in Jesus will keep some Laws and not others is that they have been emboldened to approach their religion this way through false teachings in the Talmud going back to the time of Christ and built upon so that they keep "for the law of God" the traditions of men. These traditions have changed the Law of God to make it more palatible to the people and more beneficial to the teachers (such as monetary giving). The Lord will not accept it and they will all be ashamed in the end. The honest one how really attempts to keep all the law will end up having faith in Jesus as the fulfillment of the Law. |
