Bible Question (short): OT practices not followed today? |
Question (full): As I have been reading through Deuteronomy, I am struck by some of the laws and commands that seem extreme to us today (i.e., certain dietary restrictions, not allowing anyone "unclean" into the camp, verses such as Deut. 13: 12-16 and Deut. 25:11-12). Can anyone comment on how certain practices have survived to this day and others have not? I know that Jesus came to bring us a new covenant, and that as Christians we are not bound by all the laws of the old covenant. However, certain practices remain - why? And if a Jew doesn't believe in Jesus, why are some the laws of the OT followed, but not others? Sorry if this question has been answered before - I couldn't find it. Thank you! |
