EdB Who are these scripture police who brand a doctine a cult? We better watch out or the Forum might find itself branded PHARASEES. By the way this is what the Title: The Treasury of David, Psalms 1-57 Author: Spurgeon, Charles H. VERSE 6 “But I am a worm, and no man.” This verse is a miracle in language. How could the Lord of glory be brought to such abasement as to be not only lower than the angels, but even lower than men. What a contrast between “I AM” and “I am a worm”! yet such a double nature was found in the person of our Lord Jesus when bleeding on the tree. He felt himself to be comparable to a helpless, powerless, down–trodden worm, passive while crushed, and unnoticed and despised by those who trod upon him. He selects the weakest of creatures, which is all flesh; and becomes, when trodden upon, writhing, quivering flesh, utterly devoid of any might except strength to suffer. This was a true likeness of himself when his body and soul had become a mass of misery—the very essence of agony—in the dying pangs of crucifixion. Man by nature is but a worm; but our Lord puts himself even beneath man, on account of the scorn which was heaped upon him and the weakness which he felt, and therefore he adds, “and no man.” The privileges and blessings which belonged to the fathers he could not obtain while deserted by God, and common acts of humanity were not allowed him, for he was rejected of men; he was outlawed from the society of earth, and shut out from the smile of heaven. How utterly did the Saviour empty himself of all glory, and become of no reputation for our sakes! “A reproach of men”—their common butt and jest; a byword and a proverb unto them: the sport of the rabble, and the scorn of the rulers. Oh the caustic power of reproach, to those who endure it with patience, yet smart under it most painfully! “And despised of the people.” The was against him. The very people who would once have crowned him then contemned him, and they who were benefited by his cures sneered at him in his woes. Sin is worthy of all reproach and contempt, and for this reason Jesus, the Sinbearer, was given up to be thus unworthily and shamefully entreated. Attention: Scripture Police Charles Hadden Spurgeon promoites the doctrine of a cult. Never use any commentaries by him. Cover your eyes and ears. Satire intended. Edb you will be judged by the same criterea you judge. Lighten up. Let the love of Jesus rule and reign in your life. It seems you would have the forum just be scripture with no explanation whatsoever because if God isn't writing the post it is all just opinions and beliefs. Sweet lips, sweet lips (just talking to myself). EdB what I have read so far has been cruel and you too Makarios. You two have smelled blood and show no mercy. LORD help us. |

Asis I'm very sorry you think of me as you do. I'm also very sorry that my motives have been viewed in such a light as you presented. I also believe that there is nothing I can say or do that would change you opinion of me and that also sorrows me. However there is one thing I'm not sorry for and that is taking a stand when someone calls Jesus Christ a worm. I understand the psalmist refers to himself in Psalm 22 metaphorically as a worm. I'm also well aware that Psalm 22 is prophetic view of the crucifixion and that the writer under inspiration of the Holy Spirit prophetically expressed the very emotions that Jesus would feel while on the cross. However I do not see anything that would give someone else license to call our Lord and Savior a worm. Now if you feel there is then I guess that is why there this enmity between us. Thank you for the commentary on verse 6 by Spurgeon it was very enlightening to say the least, I have never failed to learn something when I read Spurgeon and I have this time also. However once again I stand firm in saying Spurgeon never called Jesus a worm either directly or by suggestion. He was expounding on the feelings that our Lord would carry upon himself as he hung upon the cross. In this wonderful exegesis of Scripture Spurgeon clearly shows this is Jesus’ expression of himself in a very stressful and traumatic time. However it does not give us any form of license to consider “Worm” an appropriate title for our Lord. Therefore happily I see Spurgeon in no danger of the scripture police as you call them. You said I smelt blood and that I was cruel. Please believe me when I say I never meant to be cruel nor did I smell blood. I believe I was dealing in a positive manner with a reoccurring problem of false teaching. I have never been accused of being the most tactful but I did restrain myself from expressing the outrage I feel when I deal with the devastation that is often seen in the lives of WOF victims. Once again I’m very sorry you feel about me as you do, and I very much regret it. I wish it were different but alas it is not. EdB |

EdB what is done is done. We will all stand in judgement of our actions and our words on that day. I do believe that you are sincere in your concern for those who may be led astray from the truth. We must, though, sometimes look at the tone of our writtings. Some view what I wrote as an attack on you, but rather it was an attack on the style of correction than upon you personally. I too must watch my tone. To answer some of the other posts written about me let me remind all of you that the Way was considered a "cult" by the Orthodox religion of Jesus' time. I belong to and adhere to the teachings of the Lord of lords and the King of kings. The Son of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who talks to me through His word and His Spirit who lives in me. I follow the WAY. Whose cult do you belong to? This is not a defence of the undefencable. It is about the way we treat the lost. I mean would we attack the beliefs of the Roman Catholics because they believe in the "deity" of Mary. No. The subject is not taken up and if a question is asked it is handled delicately, with love and compassion. After all there is no biblical foundation for praying to her is there? Do you meet the jehovah's witness at your door with a club and chase them from your property yelling "heritic, heretic"? I talk with them and try to show them where their error is and if they are unwilling to receive what is being given to them I tell then that God loves them good bye. Sometimes our zealousness gets over zealous. You and me. I thank God that we love the one who is important. We are asked to back up all our statements with scripture. Then we then we respond with opinion based on something we heard. There have been a great many posts about the jewishness of Jesus and the beliefs of Jews that are without any foundation but these statements are allowed to go unchallenged. We believe in a Jewish God who sent His Jewish Son to take our place on the Roman cross for our sins so we can be made into new creatures and become Jewish and heirs of the promises given to the father of the Jews, Abraham . We read a Jewish book written by Jewish men and we really no nothing about our heritage. Allowing posts to demean the ancestry of our faith. I am not called to defend the honor and the truth of the Jews but I know more about them because I follow the one true God. Why do I even mention this? Because WE have gotten away from what is important. Showing the world the truth, through out words and our actions. You can take what I have said and do with it what you like. EdB I feel that we have given each other permission, in past posts, to get involved in each others lives. If I have it wrong then tell me. It is unfortunate that sometimes things are written out in the open for others to misinterpret. One last time, my post was to open the eyes of your understanding not attack you personally. If all of you cannot take me as my Lord takes me, Asis, then turn me in and get me thrown off the Forum. Because I too am "DEFENDER OF THE FAITH AND THE TRUTH OF GOD" |

Asis Let me say one thing if anybody Catholic or not came on this forum and said we must worship Mary to be saved I would jump upon them with both feet. If anyone from any religion came on this forum and said our salvation was bought with something other than the Blood of our Savior I would fight them to the end. If someone came on this forum and said Jesus is a snake, worm or soemthing like that I would again fight them tooth and nail. Asis all of the above is heresy and two of the above the person your defending has supported. Maybe I didn't say it right but I said it in a way that person needed to hear it. You know some people have become so practiced at passing false doctrine as the truth that unless they are confronted with the hard truth they will attempt to manipulate what your saying to defend themselves. If you give them an opening they manage to dive through making you look like the bad guy and they the poor picked on underdog. Once again I apologize for upsetting or offending you, but I did what I felt had to be done to establish the truth and diminish the falsehoods that were being spread. Should we welcome false doctrine on this forum? Let's let John answer that. 2 John 1:10-11 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; [11] for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds. John the answer is no we are no to welcome false doctrine in any form even as an intellectural exercise, challenge or a idscussion of Apologetics. This is what many miss. When we play with fire we end up getting burned. I hold you no ill will and consider the issue closed between us. EdB |
