"...in Him the purpose which it (the law) was designed to accomplish is fulfilled." Hank: One definition of the word "end" is "an outcome worked toward : PURPOSE." Thus, without distorting the meaning, but rather to clarify it, Rom 10:4 could also be stated as: "Christ fulfilled the purpose of the law..." Christ is the fulfillment of Moses' Teachings so that everyone who has faith may receive God's approval. Rom 10:4 God's Word Translation Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the Law [the limit at which it ceases to be, for the Law leads up to Him Who is the fulfillment of its types, and in Him the purpose which it was designed to accomplish is fulfilled. That is, the purpose of the Law is fulfilled in Him] as the means of righteousness (right relationship to God) for everyone who trusts in and adheres to and relies on Him. The Amplified New Testament, (La Habra CA: The Lockman Foundation) 1999. Also, note that "Christ is the end of the Law...as the means of righteousness." Are we free from the moral law contained in the Ten Commandments? Apparently we are not. In practice at least, the Ten Commandments have become obsolete in the United States of America. And look at the result: widespread violence, crime and anarchy. |

JVH, I quite agree that in practice the Ten Commandments have become virtually obsolete in the United States, and beyond that, forbidden to be read in public schools or posted in public buildings. And in the wake of moral decay and spiritual bankruptcy inevitably come the societal scourges you cited in your answer. We haven't learned the lesson of Sodom today, but perhaps we will Gomorrah. --Hank | ||||||
