1 | Personal prophets in the church? | Acts 3:6 | Searcher56 | 105680
Scripture ... Deu 13:1-4, 18:18-23; 1 Cor 12:7-11, 14:3-4 ... Terry, greetings EdB is correct ... The pupose of prophesy is to edify the church, it is to presnt the past (1 Cor 14:3-4) ... and is one of the spiritula gifts (12:7-11). There is predictive prophecy (Deu 18:18-19), but if it is not from God and does not come to past, the penalty is death (vv 20-22, 13:1-4). While we may not excute false prophets today ... if someone is ever not 100 PERCENT CORRECT, they need to admit who they are, and at the very least speak no more. If anyone ever camr to me and said they were a personal prophet, I would ask them if they were ever wrong and if not if they would be willing to be excuted if they were wrong. One person that I know of was forced to leave the church because he wasn't correct ... word was past to other churches in the area about his ploy. Right on, Searcher, about the "reliability test" for prophets. Cults have been notoriously wrong in their predictive prophecies -- I think Watchtower is batting zero -- yet they slosh along in their error, taking with them thousands of the faithful who by all counts appear to enjoy being misguided and deceived. That, or else they are so blinded to the truth that they wouldn't recognize it if it slapped them in the face. --Hank
