1 | Is speaking in tongues a necessity ? | Acts 2:4 | jilliebbean | 122013
I know several christians who claim to be able to speak in tongues and be slain in the spirit. Is this truly a gift of the spirit we still have today, or was that just part of the pentecost described in Acts 2? I am a born again christian and belong to a baptist church where the spirit is felt however, everyone remains upright and worships in english. Ive attended a revival before and accepted Christ there but I never could get so moved to speak in tongues or fall over. The spirit always brings tears of joy and I know God loves and accepts me as his own. The question I guess is then is what do I tell those who think if you dont have this ability you are not saved?

I was listening to the Bible Answer Man today, Hank Nahhegraf, and he suggested his book, The Bible Answer Book. I t can be purchased at any Christian Book store. If I can say more about Hank...He has an important part to do with The Christian Research Institute. This is worth it, I would suggest anybody to look into this and purchase the book"The Bible Answer Book" Apparently speaking in tongues is a predominently Pentecostal tradition, and can be considered legalism. Please go to http://www.equip.org and you'll find a RADIO linkn on the right. Praise God for the type of help we have through radio and the internet.

Marcel in Burlington, Ontario I think you have over simplified what Hank has said. Hank once served on staff for a large Pentecostal church. By the way the spelling of his name is Hanegraaff. EdB |

Peter, good to share this information with you. I was just chatting with a very good friend of mine and certianly a man of God, in my point of view, and he said thatit does sound legalistic and that God does not place things like speaking in tongues as a prerequisite to being saved. I believe that God gave us His Son and that all we have to do is follow Jesus, repent from our wicked ways, and we are saved! Praise and Glory to God. My hope is in the Name of The Lord. |
