1 | If time was an issue for the people of t | Acts 2:41 | Grace and Truth | 52510
If time was an issue for the people of today, it wasn't on the day of Pentecost, Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. For them to baptize three thousand people in one day shows us the importants of doing things exactly like the Lord commanded in the great commission, Matt 28:18-19; Mark 16:15-16, some people today make light of being baptized into Christ, but you would never have found that attitude in the first century believers, they heard Peter loud and clear when he answered their question, men and bretheren what shall we (do)? Peter said, Repent, and be baptized every one to you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. In vs. 41 They responded to the preaching of Peter's answer, all three thousand of them. Question, did anyone say hey wait a mintue here I thought we are saved by faith only? Why do I have to wait in line to be baptized? Can't I just put this off for some other time? Or did someone have to have somebody interpret what Peter is saying to us? The bible says they gladly received what Peter said, and were baptized for the remission of their sins! And notice this also, the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. What did the Lord do to baptized believers? Added them to the church! Who's adding you? |

2 | If time was an issue for the people of t | Acts 2:41 | John Reformed | 52615
Dear Grace and Truth, In the church where I am amember, before a person is admitted into the felowship, those who desire membership must first be baptized (that is if they have not already been baptized previously). They also must make a confession of faith in Christ before the congragation. This takes place after they have spent a period of time learning the creeds and confessions that our denomination subscibes to (no christians conscience is bound by these creeds and confessions but to the Scriptures alone). In this age of "cheap grace", "easy believism" and catering to the "felt needs" of people, placing requiements on them may adversly affect membership numbers and may damage the bottom line. The marketing of the gospel, as if it were snake oil, is sacraligious! I don't enjoy my cynisism about the current state of affairs of the church in America, but pray that God will grant a new reformation to us. John Reformed |
