1 | Tower of Babel: Symbol of Evil? | Acts 2:1 | Portland | 84245
The "children of men" of Genesis 11:1-9 journeyed from the east to the plain of Shinar and built a city and a tower. Was there something about the tower per se that prompted God to say, "Nothing will be withheld from them, which they have imagined to do."? What was God's actual purpose in confounding the language? 2 | Tower of Babel: Symbol of Evil? | Acts 2:1 | Mathew | 84246
Portland, I can only give my opinion with no biblical evidence on this one. Could be dangerous..lol I think that maybe God cast the Tower to the ground for the same reason he cast Satan out of heaven. Maybe God saw that in their hearts that they were making themselves to be God or equale with God. I think Gods purpose for confounding their language was because maybe He new if he didn't that thay would not soften their hearts. And then continue trying to build their tower. However this curse was reversed when God gave us the ability to speak languages and communicate in Acts:2 |

3 | Did God reverse the polyglot curse?? | Acts 2:1 | Hank | 84254
Mathew, in your answer to Portland's question concerning God's confounding of language during the time of the tower of Babel, you state that "this curse was reversed when God gave us the ability to speak languages and communicate in Acts 2." If this is true, why then am I, an English-speaking man, unable to understand a Japanese-speaking man nor he me, unless I study Japanese or he English? Isn't your statement rather sweeping? Isn't it inaccurate to hypothesize a general principle that God reversed the polyglot curse on the basis of the isolated event that occured on Pentecost in Acts 2? Is it not true that the empirical consequences of God's action on Pentecost do not support the hypothesis that He effected a general reversal of His action at Babel? --Hank
4 | Did God reverse the polyglot curse?? | Acts 2:1 | Mathew | 84275
Hank, I agree with you totaly, It was a pretty sweeping statement. I don't think that every one became bi-lenguale at the time of Pentecost. But I do beleive that this occurance happened many times for the spreading of the gospel. I beleive that its still used today, especially with the help of interpraters. So yes you could being an English speaking man understand a Japanese or vice versa. None of Gods gifts work independently with out the other. Can the eye say to the hand "I don't need you" even a miricle would need someone to have a portion of faith. This is only my opinion, I don't have enough scripture to back this up. But I thought that It would peek someones interest. Thank you |
