1 | An Unknown God? | Acts 28:2 | kalos | 157788
The God of the Bible is not Allah. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is not Allah. Yahweh (Jehovah) is not Allah. Jesus Christ is not Allah. Jesus Christ is not the son of Allah. |

2 | How should theos be translated in Malti? | Acts 28:2 | Robin Hass | 157792
What word in Malti (a semitic language)would Maltese evangelicals translate 'theos' as then? God is an English word; Allah means God in their language. They can't use God, its an English word. They can't use Yahweh, it is not the translation for theos. They've been using Allah as their noun for God for thousands of years. Your fully justified hatred of Islam is spilling over into a prejudice against semitic languages. Robin |

3 | How should theos be translated in Malti? | Acts 28:2 | DocTrinsograce | 157796
Hi, Robin... The trouble with "Allah" is that its use lends credence to Islamic teaching. Allah and the God of the Bible are not synonymous. That is easily to demonstrate from Scripture. In addition, it is vehemently denied by Moslems. Indeed, making that association is punishable by death in some Islamic dominated countries. One solution might be to use Jehovah. That word is actually from the name God gave for Himself, with the vowels of the word "Adonai" superimposed upon it. We might think of this, therefore, as our "Sovereign Lord." This has much more sound root in the Scripture. I think that transliteration can also be useful. For example, using the word "Theoanthropos" for Jesus in some contexts properly balances the notion of His diety and His humanity. I commend you for your efforts to properly translate the text of Scripture for the Maltese people. I am quite concerned with recent trends like "The Jesus Movie," etc. We believe in the verbal plenary view of the inspiration of the Scriptures. Since God carefully uses words, then we must carefully hand those words on to others. That is, truly, the heart of evangelism. Just my 2 cents, for whatever use you might find it. God bless you in your efforts. In Him, Doc |
