Honestly, every individual that is able needs to read the Bible for themselves, and determine the answer for this question. Pray to God for wisdom, and He will give it. I would never refer you to someone else, because many authors twist what the Bible says around to fit what they want it to say, even though they claim they do not! They bring passages out of context to prove their message, but in order for the Bible to be the Truth, the whole Bible has to make sense! How did the people in the old testament, who disobeyed God's commands, escape judgement? They didn't! This is the EXACT thrust of what Hebrews is saying, and the author goes to great lengths to show how someone who is rebellious, whether professing the faith or not, if they turn away from God He will judge them! The author starts the book by pointing out the supremacy of Christ, so that we can see how much more we will be punished if we disobey this blessing bestowed upon us! Nearly every single book in the new testament is laced with a warning not to fall away. Read the Bible and know that God is all that matters, and not what someone else has tried to tell you! I could go through a whole slew of verses that directly indicate that your salvation is in jeapordy if you disregard the salvation that has been given to you. Most of these verses are RIGHT AFTER the verses that many people cling to who claim that salvation is forever aside from what you do. I say these things not to discourage, but to strengthen the faith in the truth. If people really paid attention to the warnings of the Bible, we'd see a radically different Christian society today. I'm just now coming to realize it! By the way, I believe that peace is for those who are devoted to God's will. Yes, you can only be saved by Jesus Christ, because He was the only sacrifice. However, Romans points out that we have an obligation to the Spirit, to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord! You say to me, we cannot live without sin! I say to you, we will always have sin in that our bodies are sinful, but by the Spirit we must DAILY put to death the misdeeds of the flesh! Peace is not for the heart that turns away from the living God in active rebellion. Peace is not for the one who says, "If I continue in sin, will God still love me." No, only judgement. Will you stumble, yes. Perhaps you may go through a state of rebellion. David did, but God still loved him. But shape up, leave sin behind lest you become a slave again! Read Hebrews 6: 4-6 Hebrews 2: 1-4 And even Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice alludes to it in John 15: 1-8 However, God is God, and I only have limited wisdom. Does it bring me peace to think that I might lose my salvation? Not worldy peace, but a peace of calm assurance of knowing if I die doing what is right, then I am a testimony for God. But it gives me no peace to live in sin. |
