1 | Is salvation, forever, can it be lost? | Acts 16:31 | Tim3:16 | 170139 | ||
is8795, J. Vernon McGee has this to say about the question you posted: Assurance of Salvation by: J. Vernon McGee’s We have a sure salvation, and Scripture is abundantly clear on that point. Paul said in Romans 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. And, my friend, he expanded that great truth to the triumphant climax of such a bold statement as, Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. (Romans 8:33) The Throne of God is back of the weakest, humblest man who has come to trust Christ, and there is not a created intelligence in God’s universe who can bring a charge against one of these who is justified through faith in His blood. Paul continued in verses 34-37 of Romans 8: Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. (v. 34) Drink these verses into your very soul as the words of Paul build this mighty wall of assurance! Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Even as it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we were accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (vv. 35-37) And if further assurance be needed, read verses 38 and 39: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Here we are given the guarantee that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Nothing that is seen, nothing that is unseen, nothing that is natural, nothing that is supernatural can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. The Lord Jesus Himself made this tremendous statement of our absolute security: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who hath given them unto me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (John 10:27-29) Thus it becomes a question, not of our ability to hold onto Him, but of His ability to have secure hold on us. My friend, He said with the infinite wisdom and full authority of the Godhead that He can hold us and that they who trust in Him shall never perish. Is your hope fixed in a God who is all-powerful or in a God who may suffer defeat? From J. Vernon McGee’s booklet “Is it Possible for a Saved Person Ever to be Lost?” Friday, October 22, 2004 |

Well let's see here, then you dismiss everything Hebrews says in Chapter 6 as being people who weren't really saved, correct? What about hebrews chapter 2? Let's see, he's speaking to a church, he must not be speaking to people who know about salvation, or that have professed it... What does Jesus mean when he speaks of being the vine in John 15? For we know if we are "in jesus" then we are saved, correct? Whom does this judgement refer to then? Those who are a part of the vine of Jesus but are adulturers and thieves and liars and never truly been saved? It refers to Christians who aren't doing the will of God, doesn't it? In order for God's truth to be God's truth the whole Bible has to work doesn't it? Do we get off easy simply because we look back to Christ's sacrifice, while the people of the old testament had it hard because they only looked forward to Christ's sacrifice? This is the very thrust of Hebrews! God's message then was binding, God's message now is binding. Christ says he didn't come to abolish the law but to fulfill it! No more sacrifices have to be made to atone for sin because Jesus was the whole point of what those sacrifices represented! However, God's character still remains in that Jesus commanded us to love one another! Guess what...you can't love someone and commit adultry with them, or lie or steal from them! These are the best ways I know how to explain it. When you read the Bible, I believe your physical body should tremble with fear, for it is sinful! Paul says to examine yourselves with fear and trembling... Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. You have to ask yourself, if you're once saved always saved, why does the Bible constantly warn you not to sin? For Paul says this: 24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. When I sit down and read the Bible, this is the message I see portrayed. I post to this board in essence to test what I believe has been given me of God. If you should prove me wrong, that I have wrongfully interpreted, then so be it, I will change my thought to match that of God! Likewise, I would expect only the same from any of you! --Your brother in Christ |
