1 | FIRST AND OR SABATH DAY | Acts 15:20 | EMMANUELSAMUEL | 144692 | ||
CAN YOU PLEASE ADVISE ME ON THE FOLLOWING: ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE WHICH DAY IS REFERRED TO AS FIRST DAY, REST DAY, SABATH, ETC. IS SUNDAY THE FIRST DAY AND THE REST DAY IS SATURDAY. SHOULD SATURDAY BE THE DAY WE NEED TO GO TO CHURCH AND NOT SUNDAY. THIS WAS RAISED BY OUR PASTOR MOSES VIGNES, HAND OF GOD, RESERVOIR, AUSTRALIA. I AM CONFUSED. WE HAVE BEEN MEETING ON FRIDAY (AT A HALL), SATURDAY (AT A HALL OR AT PEOPLES HOUSE) AND MEET AT CHURCH ON SUNDAY. ALL DAYS ARE HOLY/SABATH AND OR PRAYER DAY. AS A PRACTICE SHOULD IT BE SATURDAY/SUNDAY AS A CHURCH DAY. MY SINCERE APPOLOGIES ON RAISING THIS QUESTION. |

Emmanuel-Samuel ::: In 1 Cor. 16:2 Paul evidently assumes that the church met on Sunday: "On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come." ..... Another indication of the observance of Sunday as the day of meeting of the church in apostolic times is found in Acts 20:7: "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread i.e., to observe the Lord's Supper], Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight." ....... The risen Lord met with His disciples on two successive Sundays (John 20:19,26). ...... It is evident that, because of the resurrection, Christians had exchanged the Sabbath (Saturday) as the primary day of worship for the first day of the week (Sunday), the day of Christ's victory over the grave (Matt. 28:1; Mark 16:2,9: Luke 24:1; John 20:1). This change in the major day of assembly and worship also serves as a clear distinction between old Judaism on the one hand and new Christianity on the other. The Lord's Day, then, is the first day of the week and is sanctioned by the apostles as the proper day of worship. .......
