1 | Jesus Himself said, I AM | John 8:58 | gmsmith101 | 5084
I agree that adding the word, "He" in the translations diminishes the power of Jesus' claim. I understand why the italicized words are added, but occassionally, they actually change the meaning of the passage so that it means something other than it should. (As I write this, of course, I can't remember where that happened, but it did.) I usually read the passage with the italicized words, then without, to grasp the meaning better.

3 | Jesus Himself said, I AM | John 8:58 | kalos | 5234
Jim: Thanks for a good question, Do we need all the study helps? My answer: Yes, *I* do. I need study helps and I'm not too arrogant or ignorant to admit it. (I do not by any means imply that you are either, my friend. I have much respect for you, Jim.) The reason: I don't have 100 years to study Greek and Hebrew or to do all the archaeological, historical, and cultural research myself. Yet clearly such research and information contribute much to our understanding of the Scriptures. God bless you, Jim. --JVH |
