1 | what is the role of the HS in my life? | John 7:39 | becky272 | 110789
Can anyone help me out with knowing more about the work that the HS should be having in my life as a believer? I'm studying through John now and chapter 7 verses 38 and 39 have really grabbed my attention. I don't feel like I have streams of living water (the HS)flowing through me! I guess this is the same way I feel about almost all of 1 John about if we're really saved, loving others. I know its not supposed to be easy to swallow perhaps. I want to know more about the HS and what he wants to do in my life and what I should be allowing him to do. Anyway, I'm in a restricted country right now and its kind of hard to get resources. I've been looking around online to no avail. Thanks if you can point me in the right direction.
2 | what is the role of the HS in my life? | John 7:39 | Ray | 110790
Hi becky272, I have studied John 7:38 and 39 with my friends here on the forum through the years. My interpretation is still in "pencil" for me, but I have come to believe that the thing that we have to receive is the Scriptures. The thing that we received when Jesus was glorified was the Scriptures, and they flow from our innermost being like rivers of living water. So when I think of the work of the Holy Spirit, I think of the word of God. The words of the Father and Son are brought to our remembrance by the Holy Spirit. The three are of one essence, and I personally do not think that you have to divide them to find the work of the Holy Spirit. The only resource that you need then, is the word of God. For me right now I am thinking of the rivers of living water as being "holy spirit". How are you relating John 7:38 with the letter of 1 John? From the heart, Ray |

3 | man or Man? spirit or Spirit? | John 7:39 | Ray | 112772
I had asked, "How are you relating John 7:38 with the letter of 1 John?" I did not get a response so I began this morning to answer the question for myself. I believe that we have to distinguish between the "Spirit" and the "spirit". We are to test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because there are many false prophets out there in the world. 1 John 4:1 Here is one example of how I relate the John 7 passage with 1 John. 1 John 4:1, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." John 7:46, NASB, "The officers answered, "Never did a man speak the way this man speaks." I encourage you to test the spirits here. In this case would you not agree with the NKJ for this verse? John 7:46, NKJ, "The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man!" From the heart, Ray |

Remember, again, in the Greek we can't tell the diff between capital and lower cases. Translators don't always get it right.
