1 | Our authority in His name? | John 6:29 | BradK | 217663 | ||
Hello Derby, Yes, Christ can be glorified by "demonstrating His love and power through the faithful." The question becomes, "are the acts described in Matt. 10 normative for believers today?" I do not believe they are! Rather, they're descriptive vs. prescriptive. Consider John 14:12 in which we're told, "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father." (NASB) This is not referring to 'sign gifts', but salvation! To whom do you refer as possessed? I don't see any Biblical evidence of a true believer being (able to be) possessed (1 John 4:4)! I wouldn't call it common for someone to be possessed. I find only 7 instances in the NT of demon possession. Can you elaborate? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

I don't believe a true believer is able to be possessed. We are filled with the Holy spirit. As far as it being common for someone to be possessed, without specific examples of who was possessed or what took place, here He cast out many. Mark 1:34 (New American Standard Bible) 34And He (A)healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was. Mark 16:15-18 (New American Standard Bible) 15And He said to them, "(A)Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16"(B)He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17"These signs will accompany those who have believed: (C)in My name they will cast out demons, they will (D)speak with new tongues; 18they will (E)pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will (F)lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Are those who have believed then or now as well? You know, Ive been thinking, maybe I am referring to some that are strongly influenced by demonic spirits rather than possessed by them. After all satan is not omni-present, so to temp us, and spread his lies he has to have help. Even as true believers we can sometimes be deceived. Thank you again for your insight. Derby |
