1 | Can excommunion work? | John 4:7 | gracefull | 74973 | ||
God disassociating Himself from Jesus is unapplicable here. Jesus was righteous and sinless bearing the sins of the world, not personal sin. Here again, one can't use this in reference to the subject at hand. A believing brother or sister who continues to come to church and continues in their sin openly is 'leaven'. They are positioning themselves to be stumbling blocks for others. Let's take a step back..A brother who is practicing sin, has been shown in scripture where this sin is clearly defined, and chooses to continue in that sin, one should seperate from them until they repent. "To what extent should I discomfort him?" This is about the Holy Spirit discomforting him to the point of repentence. You seem to be placing this in the category of punishment. This is NOT the case.The seperation is to protect yourself from the leaven of sin, and allow the Holy Spirit to convict. May I ask what is prompting this? Some general scenero so we can address this more accurately? Is this a 'church leadership' addressed situation or a personal relationship situation? Paul is speaking to the process of discipline within the church body. Has that taken place? If so, I recomend you speak with your pastor. God bless |
