1 | What shall I do? | John 4:7 | gracefull | 74875
Jesus was speaking to a 'sinner' and not an unrepentant brother, which is what Paul is addressing here. The church was tolerating sin, thereby sending the message that sin is OK to new believers as well as encouraging the one in sin to remain there. An un repentent brother or sister loves to find another brother or sister to make them 'feel' OK and ease the pressure of conviction. This is sometimes very hard, but the goal is more important than the temporary discomfort. Paul state that to disassociate with sinners, we would have to leave this world, besides, sinners need to associate with believers to see Christ in them. |

2 | Can excommunion work? | John 4:7 | Ivory313 | 74966
How long shall I disassociate or excommunion with an unrepentant/repentant brother? God just disassociate with Jesus on the cross for three days only? To what extent shall I discomfort him?
3 | Can excommunion work? | John 4:7 | Reformer Joe | 74972
Excommunication is usually something that a church does to an unrepentant invididual. Paul describes such a reason for excommunicating in 1 Corinthians 5. Jesus says in Matthew 18 that we are not to associate with those claiming to be Christians who are living in exposed, continuous unrepentance. Restoration to fellowship comes only with repentance, and should be gentle, as Galatians 6:1 tells us. --Joe! |

4 | Judge dogs and hogs? for what? | John 4:7 | Ivory313 | 75026
How can I judge that those people really repent or not? Besides, Jesus said do not judge or too you will be judged (Mat 7:1). Just keep away from those people makes me less chance to judge or to be judged. Also, if twice the same person betrays me, I will be deeply hurt. Mat 24:12 says that increase of wickedness; love of most will grow cold. Shall we pay less love to those who sin more?
5 | Judge dogs and hogs? for what? | John 4:7 | Searcher56 | 75045
Read the context of Matthew 7:1 ... to verse 6, even go to 18:11-22 ... twice is not enough. The context of 24:12 is verses 9-14 and remember that he loved us while we were yet sinners (Rom 5:8). We need to love them - not their sin. |
